Living Centre was set up in 1987 to help members of the
Chinese community: |
- find their way round the health service and get
the treatment they need
- get counselling, information and advice for themselves
and for family and friends who are unwell
- enjoy healthier lives through receiving practical
encouragement and lifestyle information

| Health Promotion Leaflets & Videos |
| The Centre stocks over 200 leaflets and videos covering a range of health concerns including common illnesses, accident prevention, drug and alcohol abuse, women's health, child care, cancer, heart problems and many other topics. You can come into the Centre to watch a video of your choice. |

| Sunday Chinese Surgery |
| Our bilingual doctors will give advice on health problems for those Chinese people who have difficulties in communicating with their own doctors. The Sunday Surgery also offers a screening programme such as blood pressure measurements and urine testing. We cannot provide prescriptions but we will put you in touch with the right health professional. |

| Traditional Chinese Medicine |
| The Sunday Surgery offers traditional Chinese herbal medicine in its drop-in clinic in the London Centre in Soho, as well as acupuncture treatments. This service is run jointly by our centre and the Asante Academy of Chinese Medicine at the Middlesex University. |
| Surgery Hours: Sunday 12:30pm - 4pm |

| Interpretation Support |
| Contact us if you need help speaking with your GP or other health professional because of language difficulties. We train Chinese speakers to provide an interpretation service when the hospital or Health Centre cannot offer this support to make sure you get the care you need. |

| Multi-lingual Health Helpline |
| If you have recently arrived in the UK and want to know how to register with a GP, if you need family planning advice, if you want to know more about keeping your heart healthy, if you are worried about a family member's well-being. Whatever your health query, we can help you with the next step. The 6000 calls we get from the Chinese community each year are answered by people who speak fluent English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Hakka and other dialects. |

| Fitness Programme |
| This programme promotes the physical health of the Chinese community through advice on healthy lifestyles and fitness training pack for Chinese workers. We also run regular Tai Chi and Qi Gong courses at our Soho Centre. |
| We are currently running 2 Tai Chi classes on Sunday. (1) Beginner Level: 1:05pm-2:05pm; (2) Intermediate Level: 2.15pm-3.15pm. The classes are taugh by Mr Alex Chu, in Wu Style Tai Chi (108 movements square form). Charges are £2 per session. | Advice and Counselling on Mental Health Illness |
| We provide counselling for people who used to suffer from mental health as well as advice for their family and friends. | Counselling for Chinese Smokers |
| We offer free counselling if you want help with giving up smoking. Our bilingual counsellors offer a confidential service. The national hotline (charged at local rates) is available between 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday: 0845 601 6030. |
| Our centre host regular events on smoking cessation, e.g. exhibition and health check. |

| Health Days and Talks |
| We give talks round the country on a wide range of topics - on self-acupressure, healthy eating, managing stress, looking after older people, women's issues, on how to avoid heart disease and strokes, and on how to get help from the health service. |

| Disability Support Scheme |
| The scheme provides support and advocacy to disabled Chinese and their families, which include: (i) Drop-in service, (ii) Advice and information on their rights and entitlements to health and social care
Advocacy, (iii) Health seminars and workshops, (iv) Training and education. |

| Carers Support Scheme |
| If you are looking after someone who is ill or has a disability, we can provide advice on getting help from the NHS and Social Services as well as counselling, support groups and advocacy. |

| Macmillan Chinese Cancer Information Service |
| The Service provides information and support to people affected by cancer, their relatives and friends through the following channels: |
- 2 days per week at the Chinese National Healthy Living Centre
- Chinese and English information on Cancer
- Talks / Activities on Cancer
- Drop In (alternate week) at Westminster Charing Cross Library
- Signposting to other organisations

| Internet Drop-In |
| If you would like to learn how to use a computer in chinese or simply need to use the Internet to search for health information, this service is catered for your needs. |
| Everybody is welcome to use this free service, no age limit. This service is available at our London centre between Tuesday and Friday, 10am-4pm. No appointment necessary. |
