Chinese Mental Health Advocacy Service
Project Co-ordinator: Mandy Lau |
Project was launched in December 2006. This is a three-year project funded by the King's Fund.
London is a multicultural city; people come from very different backgrounds. Many of the Chinese people who have immigrated to this country often find it difficult to settle in and blend into the culture due to language barriers, hence do not understand the health, education and community service system in the UK. People may find it pressurised when facing problems or find it difficult to ask for external help, consequently this would increase the psychological burden to oneself.
It is hoped that the launch of this project will provide people who is in need some continuous support.
This project is especially suitable for people from the following categories: Chinese students from overseas, New Arrivals and First generation settlers. Our services include: one-to-one initial listening support, provision of mental health information/leaflets in Chinese, advocacy service. Advocate is able to speak English, Cantonese and Mandarin. Anyone who lives in the Greater London area is welcome to use the service.
